If you are considering studying MBBS in Bangladesh, one question will shape your family’s decision: What is the total MBBS cost in Bangladesh for a Nepali student?
Tuition fees are only part of the expense. Your budget may also need to cover admission charges, hostel accommodation, food, travel, documentation, medical insurance, university fees, and everyday living costs throughout the course.
This guide answers that with real figures. It lists 2026–27 fees for 43 private medical colleges in US dollars and Nepali rupees. For each one, you’ll see the admission payment, the balance, and a per-year figure. It also covers the eligibility rules, the documents, and the steps on both the Nepal and Bangladesh sides.
You’re not alone in looking. More than 450 Nepali students went to Bangladesh for medical education between 2024 and 2026. That’s the second-highest number after India, based on Medical Education Commission approvals (The Kathmandu Post, August 12, 2026).
Check recognition before you pay. A Bangladeshi MBBS is only useful in Nepal if the Nepal Medical Council accepts the college and you later pass its licensing exam. Get recognition confirmed in writing for the exact college before any money leaves your account.

Why Nepali Students Choose Bangladesh for MBBS
Bangladesh makes the shortlists of most Nepali families for four practical reasons.
- It’s close to home. A flight from Kathmandu to Dhaka takes under two hours. The food, the climate and the family culture feel familiar, so your first semester is less of a shock.
- Teaching is in English. You won’t lose your first year learning a new language before you can follow an anatomy lecture.
- The course is close to Nepal’s own MBBS. Clinical training happens in the college’s own teaching hospital. Bangladesh’s hospitals are busy, so you see a lot of patients.
- Your family knows the total cost up front. Across the 43 colleges in this guide, the full course costs about NPR 50.7 lakh to NPR 75.2 lakh. The fee is agreed as a fixed dollar package before you join, so the college won’t raise it each year. Compare that with the MEC-set fees for MBBS in Nepal before you decide.
Not every college is equal, though. Quality varies a lot between private colleges, and a lower fee can mean fewer patients or a weaker hospital. Check the college, not just the price. The rest of this guide shows you how.
Eligibility for Nepali Students (2026–27 session)
These are the criteria listed for foreign students for the 2026–27 session under BMDC and DGME rules. DGME confirms them in its annual foreign student circular, so check each one against your own marksheets.
- You passed SEE in 2023 or 2024, and +2 (Science) in 2025 or 2026. No more than one year’s gap is allowed after SEE.
- You studied Physics, Chemistry, and Biology at +2.
- You scored at least 60%, or a B grade, in +2 Biology. Earlier DGME circulars set a higher bar: GPA 4.0 in Biology on the Bangladesh scale, or about 70%. We check your Biology grade against the current circular before you apply.
- Your combined GPA (SEE plus +2, converted to the Bangladesh scale) is at least 7.0 out of 10 for a private college, or 8.0 for a government seat.
- You have passed MECEE-BL and received the MEC eligibility certificate (see below).
- You hold a valid Nepali passport.
How your SEE and +2 grades convert to the Bangladesh GPA
This is where most students get confused, and where a rejected application usually starts.
Nepal grades on a 4.0 scale. Bangladesh grades on a 5.0 scale. Bangladesh converts your SEE result and your +2 result separately, each to a maximum of 5.0, then adds them together. That’s why the requirement reads as 7.0 or 8.0 “out of 10”.
The table below shows how the conversion broadly works, using the percentage band behind each grade. DGME’s own conversion is the one that counts, so treat this as a guide and not a final answer.

Here’s a worked example. Say you scored a B+ average in SEE and an A average in +2. Your SEE converts to about 4.0 and your +2 to about 5.0. Your combined GPA is 9.0, which clears both the private and the government threshold.
Now take a C+ average in SEE and a B average in +2. That converts to about 3.0 plus 3.5, which is 6.5. You’d fall short of the 7.0 private college minimum.

The Nepal-side requirement: MECEE-BL and the MEC eligibility certificate
Bangladesh’s rules are only half the picture. Nepal has its own.
To study MBBS abroad, you must pass the Medical Education Common Entrance Examination (MECEE-BL), run by Nepal’s Medical Education Commission (MEC). It’s the same exam many students know as the CEE. MEC issues an eligibility certificate for study abroad only after you pass it. The Nepal Medical Council later asks for that certificate when you apply to sit its licensing exam. Without it, your Bangladeshi degree may not lead to a license in Nepal.
For 2026, the MECEE-BL MBBS paper is on October 31, 2026 (Kartik 14, 2083), according to the MEC Examination Directorate notice of September 7, 2026 (Bhadra 22, 2083). The other MEC dates for the year are in our MEC academic calendar 2083/84.
You’ll also need a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from Nepal’s Ministry of Education, Science and Technology. Banks ask for it before they release foreign currency for your fees.
SAARC Quota or Private College Seat: Two Ways In
There are two ways in, and they work very differently.
- Government seats under the SAARC quota: Bangladesh reserves a small number of MBBS seats in its government medical colleges for students from SAARC countries, including Nepal. For the 2025–26 session:
- Bangladesh offered 224 SAARC and non-SAARC seats in total (Bangladesh High Commission, London).
- Nepal’s share was 19 MBBS seats and 3 BDS seats.
- In Nepal, the call was published by MEC’s Examination Directorate with the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology.
- Candidates were ranked on MECEE-BL merit, and the deadline was December 13, 2025 (2082/08/27).
- You needed a combined GPA of at least 8.0.
- Under DGME’s foreign student rules, SAARC students in government colleges pay tuition at the rate charged to Bangladeshi students, not the private college package in the tables below.
You can’t apply directly to a government college. Watch for the MEC notice each year.
- Private college seats. This is where most Nepali students study. The GPA bar is lower at 7.0, there are far more seats, and you apply through the college’s international admission process. The fee is higher, and it’s the figure shown in the tables below.
Our advice is to apply for both if your GPA allows it. Make the private seat your main plan, not your backup: with 19 MBBS seats for the whole of Nepal, no one can promise you a government seat.

What the fee does not cover
- The package fee pays for your tuition and, at most colleges, your hostel room, but hostel meals are usually extra. Before you pay anything, ask the college in writing whether your room is covered for the whole course, whether meals are included, and whether any hostel charge is billed monthly or yearly.
- Your Bangladesh student visa and its renewals.
- Flights between Kathmandu and Dhaka, and onward travel to colleges outside Dhaka.
- Books, instruments, a lab coat, a stethoscope and other medical equipment you’ll need for practical classes.
- University registration and exam fees, where the college charges them separately.
- Bank charges on each foreign currency transfer.

Documents You Need
Keep the originals and several attested copies of each. Your academic documents must be attested by Nepal’s Ministry of Education, Science and Technology and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. DGME checks this, and it cancels a student’s eligibility at any stage if a document turns out to be forged. The first year and a half is almost entirely classroom and lab work. It’s hard. Anatomy alone requires a lot of memorization, and many students find the first professional exam the toughest. Clinical postings begin in Phase 3, and you’ll spend most of the final 18 months and the internship on the wards.
Ask each college, in writing, which hospital your internship will be in, and keep your internship completion certificate safe. You’ll need your internship records when you apply to the Nepal Medical Council.
Life in Bangladesh as a Nepali Student
Most of the colleges in this guide are in and around Dhaka. It’s a large, busy and crowded city, and traffic can turn a short trip into an hour. Colleges outside Dhaka, in Sylhet, Rajshahi, Rangpur, Khulna or Chattogram, tend to be calmer and sometimes cheaper to live in.
Bangladesh is a Muslim-majority country, and daily life is conservative in dress and routine. Rice, lentils and fish are staples, so the food takes less adjusting to than it would further from home. With hundreds of Nepali students already studying medicine there, you may well find seniors from Nepal to ask on your first day.
Lectures are in English, but most patients speak Bangla. Plan to learn enough Bangla to take a patient history by the time your clinical postings start.
For girls, and for their parents, the hostel matters more than anything else. Before you choose a college, ask:
- Is there a separate girls’ hostel?
- What are the warden arrangements?
- What are the gate timings?
After Graduation: Practicing in Nepal
Your Bangladeshi MBBS doesn’t let you practice in Nepal on its own. On return, you’ll need to:
- Show the MEC eligibility certificate you got before leaving.
- Complete registration steps with the Nepal Medical Council.
- Pass the Nepal Medical Council Licensing Examination.

How many Nepali students study MBBS in Bangladesh?

Is MBBS in Bangladesh valid in India?
