GJSS scheme 2026-2027

The first year of a bachelor’s degree is when the real cost of the next four or five years lands on your family. If you have just started MBBS, BSc Nursing, engineering or any other bachelor’s programme in Nepal, and you scored well in Class 12, this scholarship can carry part of that cost for most of your degree.

The Embassy of India, Kathmandu is accepting online applications for the Golden Jubilee Scholarship Scheme (GJSS) from 23/10/2026 until 23:59 on Sunday 15/11/2026 (Kartik 6 to Kartik 29, 2083). Selected students receive between NPR 36,000 and NPR 48,000 a year, depending on the course, for three to five years.

You apply yourself, online. The notice mentions no application fee. This page covers who qualifies, exactly how much each course receives, the age rule most students check wrongly, the scholarships that disqualify you, and what you must send every year to keep the money coming.

How much GJSS pays, course by course

CoursePer yearYearsTotal over the scholarship
MBBS / BDSNPR 48,0005NPR 2,40,000
B.E. / B.Tech. / B.Arch. / BAMSNPR 48,0004NPR 1,92,000
Other coursesNPR 36,0003NPR 1,08,000

Per year, that is the equivalent of NPR 4,000 a month for MBBS, BDS, engineering, architecture and BAMS, and NPR 3,000 a month for other courses. The money is deposited in a bank account the Embassy opens in your name, one year at a time, as long as you keep meeting the conditions below.

BSc Nursing and other health-science degrees fall under “Other courses”

The notice names only six programmes: MBBS, BDS, B.E., B.Tech., B.Arch. and BAMS. Everything else appears to fall under “Other courses”, which includes BSc Nursing, B.Pharm, BPH, BMLT and the other health-science bachelor’s degrees.

That matters if you are on a four-year programme such as BSc Nursing. As written, “Other courses” carry a three-year scholarship, which would cover three of your four years. If you are on a four-year programme outside the named list, email the helpdesk at [email protected] to confirm the duration before your family plans around a fourth year.

Who can apply: the six conditions

You need to meet every one of these. Missing one is enough for rejection.

  • You are a regular first-year undergraduate student at a recognised institution in Nepal. Diploma students are excluded. Second-year students cannot apply, even if they missed last year’s window.
  • You scored at least 70% aggregate in Class 12, counting Class 12 marks only, not Class 11.
  • You are between 17 and 22 years old on 01/07/2027.
  • You are a citizen of Nepal.
  • Your family’s income is less than NPR 2,00,000 a year, shown on a recent income certificate from a Government of Nepal office.
  • You receive no other scholarship from any source.

Three of these trip students up more often than the marks.

The age rule: count your age on 01/07/2027, not today

Your age is measured on 01/07/2027 (Asar 16, 2084), more than eight months after the deadline. A student who is 22 today can be 23 by then and fall outside the limit.

Two examples. If you were born on 15/03/2005, you will be 22 on 01/07/2027, so you are inside the limit. If you were born on 15/03/2004, you will be 23 on that date, so you are outside it. If your birthday falls close to the edge, work it out carefully against your citizenship certificate before you start.

If you hold an MEC scholarship seat or any other scholarship

The notice says applicants receiving a scholarship from any other source are not eligible, and your principal must attest in writing that you receive none.

If you joined MBBS or BSc Nursing through CEE 2082 matching on a scholarship seat, that is a scholarship from another source. As we read the notice, it rules you out of GJSS. The scheme is most relevant to students on paying seats, where the full fee falls on the family. The same applies to university, provincial or college merit scholarships. If you are unsure whether something you receive counts, ask [email protected] before you apply, not after.

If your Class 12 grade sheet shows GPA, not a percentage

The notice asks for 70% aggregate in Class 12. NEB grade sheets show grades and a GPA, and the notice does not say how the Embassy reads one as the other. Because the form cannot be edited once you submit it, do not guess. Email the helpdesk with a copy of your Class 12 grade sheet and ask how your marks should be entered. Send it early, so you have the answer in hand before you submit.

If you came to BNS through PCL Nursing

The notice is written around Class 12 results: it asks for a Class 12 mark sheet and 70% in Class 12. If you joined BNS after PCL Nursing rather than +2, your academic record may not fit those requirements, and the age limit may also rule you out. Ask the helpdesk before you spend time on an application.

Documents checklist for GJSS

Gather and scan these before you register. Every scan must be clear and readable. The notice warns that illegible documents are a reason for rejection.

How to apply on goischolarship.com.np, step by step

  • Use your own email address, and keep the password safe. Not a relative’s, a friend’s or a consultancy’s. Verification, selection and bank account messages go to this address and nowhere else.
  • Open goischolarship.com.np and choose “Register Now” to create an account for MGSS and GJSS 2026-27.
  • Scan your documents so every word is readable.
  • Fill in your details exactly as they appear on your documents: name, address, email, phone numbers and marks.
  • Upload your photograph and documents.
  • Read the whole form again before final submission. There is no way to change the application after you submit it.
  • Submit and save the acknowledgement receipt. The notice says final submission is confirmed by generating this receipt. No receipt means your application has not gone through.
  • Check your email, including spam, regularly for the months that follow.

Why we will not fill in this form for you

The Embassy of India says plainly that it accepts applications only from students directly. It does not recognise or receive applications through education consultants, middlemen or agencies in Nepal, and applications that come through them are liable to be rejected.

We are an education consultancy, so that rule applies to us too. We will not fill in your GJSS form, submit it, or ask for your login. If anyone offers to submit it for you, for a fee or for free, say no. It puts your application at risk.

For help with the form itself, the notice gives one address: [email protected]. Send your question with full details and any supporting documents. The Embassy also asks applicants to deal only with its Education Wing.

After selection: keeping the scholarship every year

GJSS is renewed one year at a time. Each year’s instalment depends on what you send.

  • The Embassy opens a bank account in your name and deposits the scholarship there. Details arrive by email.
  • Every year, you send two documents: a copy of your mark sheet or sheets for the year, and a certificate from your principal or campus chief confirming you have been promoted to and are studying in the next year or semester, with the percentage you obtained the previous year. On a semester system, that is the aggregate percentage.
  • Email them to [email protected] by 31 December each year. Further instalments are paid only after the Embassy receives them. If they do not arrive on time, the scholarship is terminated.
  • You must pass every year. If you do not pass your first year or any later year, including both semesters where your programme runs on semesters, the scholarship stops from that year.
  • The Embassy can accept or reject any application, and continue or discontinue a scholarship at any stage.

On a five-year MBBS that is five December deadlines. Put the date in your calendar every year, not only the first.

How competitive is GJSS?

The Government of India started the Golden Jubilee Scholarship in 2002 to mark 50 years of India-Nepal economic cooperation. In March 2025, the Embassy said the number of Golden Jubilee scholars had grown to about 200 a year. The 2026-27 notice does not state how many awards will be made.

With around 200 places a year across every bachelor’s subject in Nepal, a strong Class 12 result and a complete, accurate application both matter. A clean application will not make up for missing a condition, and a strong result will not rescue an application with an unreadable document.

For parents: what GJSS is worth and what it asks of you

GJSS pays NPR 1,08,000 to NPR 2,40,000 over the length of the scholarship, depending on the course, into an account in your child’s name. Nothing in the notice says it has to be repaid.

The income limit is less than NPR 2,00,000 a year for the whole family, which is about NPR 16,700 a month. You will need to provide both your citizenship certificates and the income certificate.

Three things decide whether your family receives the scholarship for every year it covers:

  • The application is submitted by your child, from your child’s email address, with the acknowledgement receipt saved.
  • You know the email password too, because selection and bank account messages arrive only by email.
  • Each year’s documents reach the Embassy by 31 December, and your child passes every year, including both semesters.

Selection is decided by the Embassy and the number of awards is limited. Plan the full fee as if your child will pay it, and treat the scholarship as relief if it comes. For a sense of the fees themselves, our MEC fee guide for medical programmes sets out the figures MEC publishes.

Still in Class 12? What this means for you

If you are reading this ahead of time, two GJSS rules apply to you now: the 70% requirement counts Class 12 marks only, and you can only apply in your first year of a bachelor’s programme. If the scheme opens again next year, your Class 12 result is what decides whether you can apply.

For MBBS, BSc Nursing and other health-science seats, the CEE decides whether you get a scholarship seat or a paying seat, and at which college. Our CEE study guide sets out what to revise and when, and our CEE 2082 nursing cut-off breakdown shows the scores that won BSc Nursing seats last year. Since 2021 we have taught around 10,000 students in Nepal for licence and entrance exams, and our CEE preparation runs from our offices in Putalisadak and New Baneshwor, Kathmandu.

If you have a younger brother or sister who has just started Class 11, the Embassy’s Mahatma Gandhi Scholarship for Class 11 students uses the same portal and the same deadline.

23:59 on Sunday 15/11/2026 (Kartik 29, 2083). The portal closes at 00:00 on 16/11/2026, and documents sent by email or post after the deadline are not considered.

How much is the Golden Jubilee Scholarship for MBBS?

NPR 48,000 a year for five years, NPR 2,40,000 in total. BDS receives the same. B.E., B.Tech., B.Arch. and BAMS receive NPR 48,000 a year for four years, and other courses NPR 36,000 a year for three years.

What percentage do I need for GJSS?

At least 70% aggregate in Class 12, excluding Class 11 marks. If your grade sheet shows GPA, ask [email protected] how to enter it before you submit.

What is the age limit for the Golden Jubilee Scholarship 2026-27?

You must be between 17 and 22 years old on 01/07/2027 (Asar 16, 2084). Your age is counted on that date, not on the day you apply.

Can I apply for GJSS if I have an MEC scholarship seat?

The notice says applicants receiving a scholarship from any other source are not eligible, and an MEC scholarship seat is a scholarship. Confirm with the helpdesk if you are unsure about your own case.

Can second-year bachelor’s students apply for GJSS?

No. The notice is for regular first-year undergraduate students only.

Can a consultancy apply for GJSS on my behalf?

No. The Embassy accepts applications only from students directly and says applications received through consultants, middlemen or agencies are liable to be rejected.
