How MECEE-BL matching works

The admission flow, step by step. Dates shown are the MECEE-BL 2026 (2082) reference schedule.

1
Bhadau 2–22, 2082 (late: 29)
Apply online

Register at entrance.mec.gov.np, pay the fee, upload documents and submit each program form.

2
Kartik 15–19, 2082
Sit the entrance exam

200 marks, 3 hours, OMR. +1 per correct, −0.25 per wrong. Must clear the 50th percentile.

3
Result & priority setting

After results, set your college/program priority order online. This order drives matching.

4
Scholarship & foreign matching

Free (scholarship) and foreign seats are matched first, by merit + category.

5
First list: 2025-12-17
Open-house (paying) matching

Paying seats matched in person with biometric verification, in priority order.

6
Re-matching, second & wrap-up

Vacant seats are filled through re-matching, a second list and final wrap-up matching.

These are the 2082 cycle dates, shown for reference. The next intake (2083) schedule will be added once MEC publishes it.
Prepare clear scans before the application window. Application fee is Rs 4,000 (Nepali) / Rs 8,000 (foreign), payable via Himalayan Bank, Connect IPS, eSewa, Khalti or card. Minimum eligibility: Physics, Chemistry & Biology with ≥50% or 2.4 GPA at Class 12 / PCL.

Submit original (sakkal) scans only — photocopies are not accepted — and upload everything before the deadline. This checklist is a study aid; the official MEC notice is the final authority.

Figures below reflect the MECEE-BL 2026 (CEE 2082) cycle where dates apply, and last cycle's closing ranks where ranks apply. Closing ranks are last year's actuals, and any marks shown are estimated from the merit curve. Always confirm against the official MEC result before you commit.

How to use the CEE College Predictor

Start on the Rank Predictor tab and enter your CEE merit rank in the box. If results aren't out yet and you only have a raw score, tap the Marks toggle and type your score out of 200, and the tool converts it to an estimated rank using last year's merit curve, so treat that rank as approximate.

Next, set the four filters that decide which colleges appear:

  • Program: MBBS, BDS, BSc Nursing, BNS, BAMS, BPH, B. Pharm and the allied health programs.
  • Seat type: Paying (you pay up to the fee cap) or Scholarship (government-funded, free, but bonded). The same college closes at very different ranks for each.
  • Reservation category: leave on Open for the general merit list, or pick your category (Female, Khas Arya, Janajati, Dalit, Tharu, Muslim, Apangata and others) to see the reserved closing ranks, which are usually lower.
  • Matching round: leave on Any round to judge your overall chance, or pick a specific round (1st Matching, 1st Re-Matching, 2nd Matching, 2nd Re-Matching) to see how seats reopen as candidates upgrade.

Press Find my colleges. Every eligible college is sorted into three bands built from last year's closing ranks:

  • Safe: your rank is comfortably below the college's last closing rank.
  • Target: your rank is close to the line; realistic but not guaranteed.
  • Reach: your rank is just above last year's cutoff, so you would depend on later rounds and any upward drift.

Each result card shows the college name, whether it is Public or Private, its district, the number of seats, the fee, the closing rank (with an estimated marks equivalent), and the per-round cut-offs. Use the Sort by menu to reorder by easiest cut-off, toughest cut-off, most seats, or college name, and use Print my list to save your shortlist.

Then work across the other tabs. Plan checks whether you meet the eligibility floor and tells you the rank each college needs. Priority List simulates where you would most likely be placed once you order your preferences. Colleges & Seats lets you compare seat counts, fees and programs side by side, and browse every college with filters.

How accurate are college predictor tools?

A predictor estimates your chances from past closing ranks, so read it as a guide, not a guarantee. Cut-offs shift every cycle for several reasons at once: the number of applicants and how they performed, changes in the seat matrix (seats are added, withdrawn or reallocated each year), fee revisions, and, most unpredictably, how candidates order their preference lists. A college can close several hundred ranks higher or lower than the previous year purely because of how the field chose.

Because of this, read the bands with a margin of safety rather than to the last digit. Safe means you cleared last year's line comfortably and the college should still be within reach even if the cut-off tightens. Target means you were close, so a slightly tougher year could push it out. Reach means you were above the line and would need cut-offs to loosen or later rounds to open up. A practical rule: aim to sit a few hundred ranks below a college's closing rank before you treat it as genuinely safe.

This tool's predictions rest on two estimates. The closing ranks are last year's actual figures, and the marks-to-rank conversion is interpolated from the 2082 merit curve. Both are sound for planning but are not official. For any college that matters to you, verify the exact closing rank against the MEC result before you lock a preference.

How are CEE marks converted to a rank?

The MECEE-BL entrance is a 200-mark, three-hour OMR exam. You earn +1 for each correct answer and lose 0.25 for each wrong one, and you must clear the 50th percentile to qualify for the merit list at all. Your final merit rank is your position once every qualified candidate is ordered from highest score to lowest, so rank 1 is the top scorer.

When you enter marks instead of a rank, the predictor maps your score onto last year's merit curve to estimate where that score would have placed you. For reference points from the previous cycle, a score in the mid-150s mapped to roughly the top 10 ranks, the high-90s to around rank 1,000, the low-70s to around rank 2,500, and the mid-40s to around rank 7,500. These are estimates: the curve moves each year with the difficulty of the paper and the strength of the field, so a marks-based rank should be read as a ballpark, not a fixed number.

Which medical college is hardest to get into in Nepal?

On CEE merit rank, the toughest seats are government and scholarship MBBS seats at the top public institutions. Maharajgunj Medical Campus (Institute of Medicine) carries the lowest closing rank for MBBS. Last cycle it closed around rank 1,517 even on a paying seat, so only top rankers qualify, and the Open and scholarship lines are tighter still. Patan Academy of Health Sciences is next, closing near rank 2,408, followed by KU School of Medical Sciences (around 2,265) and BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences (around 2,979).

Paying seats at the same MBBS colleges close at progressively higher (easier) ranks, which is what makes them reachable for a much wider band of scores. Last cycle the spread ran from the toughest at Maharajgunj (around 1,517) all the way out to Madan Bhandari Academy (around 6,136) and Purbanchal University School of Health Sciences (around 6,261), a range of nearly 5,000 ranks across MBBS colleges alone. Mid-table examples included Chitwan Medical College (around 3,114), Nepal Medical College (around 3,281) and Kathmandu Medical College (around 3,596).

So the answer depends entirely on the college and the seat type. Rather than going by reputation, enter your rank and read the exact closing rank for each college and seat type, and the predictor will show you precisely where the line sits.

Am I eligible for MBBS, BDS or nursing?

For MBBS and BDS you need Physics, Chemistry and Biology in Class 12 or PCL with at least 50% or a 2.4 GPA, and you must have passed Class 12 Science or an equivalent. You then have to sit the MECEE-BL common entrance and score at or above the 50th-percentile qualifying mark. Nursing programs apply their own subject and percentage requirements, which can differ from the MBBS and BDS floor.

If you studied under a foreign board, you will also need a samakakshyata (equivalence) certificate, and some licence-bound programs (such as BNS or BMS) require valid council registration.

To check yourself quickly, open the Plan tab, choose whether you are entering a percentage or a GPA, and type your Class 12 or PCL aggregate in Physics, Chemistry and Biology. The tool confirms whether you meet the floor. Remember that eligibility only puts you on the merit list. Your rank then decides which college and seat type you can actually claim.

What CEE rank do I need for my college?

The rank you need is the closing rank of your chosen college, program and seat type from the previous cycle. A lower number is stronger, since rank 1 is the top scorer, so needing a lower rank means the seat is more competitive.

Scholarship and Open seats close at far lower (tougher) ranks than paying seats, which means a single college can ask for two very different ranks depending on the seat. For example, an MBBS paying seat at a mid-table private college might close near rank 3,500, while a scholarship or Open seat at a top public campus can demand a rank in the low thousands or better.

To see the full picture, open the Plan tab, pick a program and seat type, and the tool lists the rank required at every college offering it. Your goal is to sit comfortably below a college's closing rank. That is what moves it from your Reach band into Safe.

How does MECEE-BL college matching work?

MEC runs a single, merit-based matching for all medical and allied programs, in this order:

  1. Apply online (around Bhadau 2 to 22, late deadline Bhadau 29): register at entrance.mec.gov.np, pay the fee, upload your documents and submit a form for each program.
  2. Sit the entrance (around Kartik 15 to 19): 200 marks, 3 hours, OMR, with +1 per correct answer and 0.25 deducted per wrong one. You must clear the 50th percentile.
  3. Result and priority setting: after results, you submit an ordered list of college and program preferences online. This order drives everything that follows.
  4. Scholarship and foreign matching: free (scholarship) and foreign seats are matched first, by merit and category.
  5. Open-house (paying) matching: paying seats are matched in person with biometric verification, in your priority order. The first paying list last cycle was published in mid-December.
  6. Re-matching, second list and wrap-up: vacant seats are filled through re-matching, a second list, and a final wrap-up round as candidates upgrade or withdraw.

In each round the system places you in the highest preference you qualify for at your rank, filling seats from the top rank downward. If a higher choice is already full at your rank, you drop to your next listed choice, which is exactly why preference order matters so much. Use the Priority List tab to order your choices and preview where you are most likely to land before you submit the real list.

Paying seats versus scholarship seats

Scholarship seats are funded by the government and close at the lowest (toughest) ranks, but they come with a service-bond agreement (kabuliyatnama) signed at admission, committing you to government service for a set period. Paying seats cost up to the published fee cap, which for MBBS is about Rs 41.65 lakh, and close at higher (easier) ranks, so they suit a wider band of merit positions.

A large share of seats is set aside under reservation. In the most recent official split, 55% of seats are Open and 45% are reserved, with the reserved portion divided across categories: Female 28%, Khas Arya 17%, Adibasi Janajati 15%, Dalit 9%, Madheshi 9%, Tharu 4%, Pichhadiyeko 4%, Dalit Female 3%, Madheshi Dalit 3%, Muslim 2%, Muslim Female 2%, Apangata (disability) 2% and Shahid (martyr family) 2%. Reserved categories often close at lower ranks than Open, so applying under your category can put colleges within reach that the Open list would not.

To see exactly how this plays out, switch the seat type and reservation category in the predictor. The closing rank for the same college will change as you do, which is the clearest way to understand your real options.

What documents do I need to apply?

Prepare clear scans before the application window opens. The application fee is Rs 4,000 (Nepali) or Rs 8,000 (foreign), payable via Himalayan Bank, Connect IPS, eSewa, Khalti or card.

Everyone must submit: a passport-size digital photo (JPEG or JPG, max 200 KB, sharp); citizenship and National ID for Nepali applicants (or proof of the NID number if not yet issued); passport or e-Aadhaar for foreign applicants; the Class 12 or PCL transcript; an equivalence certificate if you studied under a foreign board; and council registration for licence-bound programs.

If you are claiming a reserved (scholarship) seat, attach the proof for your group, for example a District Administration Office letter for martyr-family or conflict-affected status; Commission, DAO or local-level certification for Dalit, Janajati, Khas Arya, Madheshi, Tharu or Muslim claims; a disability ID plus a recommendation from an NMC-registered doctor; a principal-certified community-school form; or district citizenship plus residence proof for backward-region claims (Achham, Kalikot, Jajarkot, Jumla, Dolpa, Bajhang, Bajura, Mugu, Humla).

File specs: photos as JPEG or JPG up to 200 KB; documents as JPEG (max 200 KB) or PDF (max 500 KB), with multi-page documents combined into a single PDF. Upload original (sakkal) scans only, photocopies are rejected, and submit everything before the deadline. The official MEC notice is always the final authority.
