mgss scheme 2026-2027 (1)

If you have just started Class 11 and your family is already counting what two years of +2 will cost, this scholarship is worth twenty minutes of your time today. The window is short and it has already opened.

The Embassy of India, Kathmandu is accepting online applications for the Mahatma Gandhi Scholarship Scheme (MGSS) from 23/10/2026 until 23:59 on Sunday 15/11/2026 (Kartik 6 to Kartik 29, 2083). If you are selected, you receive NPR 24,000 a year for Class 11 and Class 12, which comes to NPR 48,000 in total, paid into a bank account opened in your name.

You apply yourself, online. The notice mentions no application fee. This page covers who qualifies, every document you need, the three rules that disqualify more students than low marks do, and what you must do after selection to keep the money coming in Class 12.

Who can apply: the five conditions

You need to meet every one of these. Missing one is enough for rejection.

  • You are a regular Class 11 student at a recognised school or college in Nepal. Diploma students are excluded. The notice does not limit the scheme to any stream, so science, management, humanities and education students can all apply.
  • You scored at least 60% aggregate in Class 10.
  • You are a citizen of Nepal.
  • Your family’s income is less than NPR 2,00,000 a year, shown on a recent income certificate from a Government of Nepal office.
  • You receive no other scholarship from any source.

Conditions one and five catch more students than the marks requirement does. Here is why.

If you chose PCL Nursing or another diploma after SEE

The notice is specific: Class 11, not diploma. If you went from SEE into PCL Nursing, a CTEVT diploma or any other diploma programme, you are not eligible for MGSS, whatever your SEE result. This is one of the trade-offs of the diploma route that families rarely hear about when choosing between +2 science and PCL Nursing.

If your +2 college already gives you a scholarship

Many +2 colleges in Nepal offer their own fee waivers to students with a strong SEE GPA. The MGSS notice says applicants receiving a scholarship from any other source are not eligible, and your principal has to attest in writing that you are not receiving one.

So before you apply, sit down with your parents and compare the two. If your college waiver is worth more than NPR 24,000 a year, keep it. If it is smaller and you would have to give it up, ask your college in writing what giving it up would mean before you do anything. Either way, never apply while holding another scholarship. That puts both at risk.

If your SEE grade sheet shows GPA, not a percentage

The notice asks for 60% aggregate marks in Class 10. Your SEE grade sheet shows grades and a GPA. The notice does not say how the Embassy reads one as the other, and we are not going to guess on your behalf, because the form cannot be edited once you submit it.

Email the Embassy’s application helpdesk at [email protected], attach a copy of your grade sheet, and ask how your marks should be entered. Send it early, so you have the answer in hand before you submit.

Documents checklist for MGSS

Gather and scan these before you register. Every scan must be clear and readable. The notice warns that illegible documents are a reason for rejection.

The citizenship certificate: the step that catches Class 11 students

This is the document most likely to stop you. Many Class 11 students are 16 or younger, and in Nepal you can only apply for a citizenship certificate from the age of 16. The MGSS notice lists your own citizenship certificate as a required upload and does not mention an alternative.

If you are 16 or older and do not have it yet, go to your District Administration Office with your parents now, not in the second week of November. If you are under 16, or your certificate will not be ready by 15/11/2026, email [email protected] before the deadline and ask what the Embassy accepts in your situation. Do not upload a substitute document and hope.

The income certificate

The notice asks for the latest income certificate issued by an officer of the Government of Nepal, such as your local government office or the District Administration Office. These offices often ask for supporting papers before they issue one, so parents should start on this first. It usually takes longer than the online form itself.

How to apply on goischolarship.com.np, step by step

  1. Create your own email address if you do not have one, and write the password down somewhere safe. Use your own, not a relative’s, a friend’s or a consultancy’s. Every message about verification, selection and your bank account will go to this address and nowhere else.
  2. Open goischolarship.com.np and choose “Register Now” to create an account for MGSS and GJSS 2026-27.
  3. Scan your documents so every word is readable. A phone scanning app is fine if the result is sharp and flat.
  4. Fill in your details exactly as they appear on your documents: name, address, email, phone numbers and marks. A spelling that does not match your citizenship certificate creates a problem you do not need.
  5. Upload your photograph and documents.
  6. Read the whole form again before final submission. There is no way to change the application after you submit it.
  7. Submit and save the acknowledgement receipt. The notice says final submission is confirmed by generating this receipt. No receipt means your application has not gone through. Download it, screenshot it, and keep a copy with your parents.
  8. Check your email, including spam, regularly for the months that follow.

Why we will not fill in this form for you

The Embassy of India says plainly that it accepts applications only from students directly. It does not recognise or receive applications through education consultants, middlemen or agencies in Nepal, and applications that come through them are liable to be rejected.

We are an education consultancy, so that rule applies to us too. We will not fill in your MGSS form, submit it, or ask for your login. If anyone offers to submit it for you, for a fee or for free, say no. It puts your application at risk.

For help with the form itself, the notice gives one address: [email protected]. Send your question with full details and any supporting documents. The Embassy also asks applicants to deal only with its Education Wing.

After selection: how to keep the scholarship in Class 12

Being selected covers Class 11. The money for Class 12 depends on what you do next.

  • The Embassy opens a bank account in your name and deposits the scholarship there. Details arrive by email.
  • To continue in Class 12, you send two documents: a copy of your Class 11 mark sheet, and a certificate from your principal confirming you have been promoted to and are studying in Class 12, with the percentage you obtained in Class 11.
  • Email them to [email protected] by 31 December. Further instalments are paid only after the Embassy receives them. If they do not arrive on time, the scholarship is terminated.
  • You must pass Class 11. If you do not, the scholarship stops from that year.
  • The Embassy can accept or reject any application, and continue or discontinue a scholarship at any stage.

Put a reminder for 31 December in your phone and your parents’ phones the day you hear you have been selected.

For parents: what MGSS is worth and what it asks of you

MGSS pays NPR 24,000 a year for two years, NPR 48,000 in total, into an account in your child’s name. Nothing in the notice says it has to be repaid.

The income limit is less than NPR 2,00,000 a year for the whole family, which is about NPR 16,700 a month. You will need to provide both your citizenship certificates and the income certificate, and the income certificate is the slowest document to get. Start there.

Three things make the difference between a family that receives both years of this scholarship and one that loses it:

  • The application is submitted by your child, from your child’s email address, with the acknowledgement receipt saved.
  • You know the email password too, because selection and bank account messages arrive only by email.
  • The Class 12 documents reach the Embassy by 31 December. Missing that date ends the scholarship.

Selection is decided by the Embassy, and the notice does not say how many MGSS awards will be made this year. Plan your +2 fees on the assumption that your child pays them, and treat the scholarship as relief if it comes.

Planning nursing or medicine after +2?

If you are in Class 11 science because you want an MBBS, BSc Nursing or another health-science seat, the Common Entrance Examination (CEE) after Class 12 decides where you study and whether you pay full fees. The difference between a scholarship seat and a paying seat is far larger than this scholarship, and it is decided by your rank.

Our CEE study guide sets out what to revise and in what order. To see the scores that won BSc Nursing seats last year, read our CEE 2082 nursing cut-off breakdown. Since 2021 we have taught around 10,000 students in Nepal for licence and entrance exams, and our BSc Nursing entrance preparation runs from our offices in Putalisadak and New Baneshwor, Kathmandu.

If you go on to a bachelor’s programme in Nepal, the Embassy’s second scheme, the Golden Jubilee Scholarship for first-year bachelor’s students, asks for at least 70% in Class 12. That is worth knowing now, at the start of Class 11.
