Passing Nepal’s Common Entrance Examination, formally known as MECEE-BL, is an achievement but it is not an admission letter. Qualification places you in the merit process. A seat is allocated later through matching.

If you passed CEE but did not get a seat, do not describe yourself as having failed. Find out whether you are unmatched in the current round or the complete admission cycle has ended. Our CEE preparation support in Nepal can help you review your score and options.

Why Passing CEE Does Not Mean You Will Get a Seat

MEC uses the 50th percentile as the qualifying threshold for inclusion in the merit list. A percentile is not the same as scoring 50% marks. Qualification only makes you eligible to compete.

According to the Medical Education Commission’s matching guidance, allocation considers your application, group-wise merit position, applicable reservation percentage, and the order in which you selected institutions and programs. Candidates higher in the relevant merit order receive priority.

You may remain unmatched because:

  • Higher-ranked candidates filled the seats in your selected colleges or programs.
  • You selected too few realistic options during online priority setting.
  • Your rank was outside the available scholarship or paying-seat range.
  • You missed the priority-setting deadline, restricting later options.
  • Seats were filled before the system reached your available choices.

This is why two students who both qualify can receive different outcomes.

How CEE Matching Works in Nepal

After MEC publishes merit lists, eligible candidates complete online priority setting. You arrange the available college-program choices in your genuine order of preference. The computer-based process considers the relevant merit order, group rules, priorities, and available seats.

Imagine that you rank College A first and College B second. If higher-ranked eligible candidates fill College A, the system can consider your next valid choice. If all the choices you submitted are already full when your application is considered, you can remain qualified but unmatched.

Your order should reflect where you would actually enroll. However, an extremely narrow list can reduce your chances. Compare tuition, location, clinical exposure, accommodation, and what your family can finance before you lock in your choices.

MEC states that candidates who miss online priority setting are eligible only for wrap-up matching. Treat every priority-setting deadline as an admission deadline, not as an optional formality.

Use the MEC entrance portal and official MEC notices rather than screenshots circulated in social groups.

What Is CEE Rematching?

A first matching list does not always fill every seat. When selected candidates do not complete admission, MEC may publish rematching notices for the resulting vacancies.

Rematching is not another entrance examination. It is a later allocation stage using the applicable rules, vacancies, merit, and priorities. Eligibility and movement between choices can vary by notice, so do not assume every unmatched candidate will be reconsidered automatically.

When a rematching notice appears:

  1. Check whether it covers scholarship, paying, or another specified group.
  2. Confirm whether your program and candidate status are eligible.
  3. Read the admission deadline attached to the new list.
  4. Save the notice and result rather than relying on a verbal update.

The 2026 cycle included separate scholarship and paying stages. Future sequencing may differ. Use the CEE exam and notice guide for context, but verify every action with MEC.

What Is Wrap-Up Matching?

Wrap-up matching addresses seats remaining after regular matching and rematching. It matters to students who qualified but did not complete admission earlier.

Do not assume you are automatically entered. For MECEE-BL 2026, MEC issued a separate notice asking eligible candidates to apply online for wrap-up matching. This was followed by an eligible-candidate list, schedule, program-specific results, and admission instructions.

MEC also later published notices for alternative or final matching against remaining vacancies.

Not every program will have a vacancy or the same final stage each year. Check the vacant-seat and eligibility notices. If an application is required, submit it within the announced window and save proof.

What You Should Do Immediately

what to do after getting cee results checklist

1. Check Your Exact Status

Record your score, program-specific rank, applicable category, and whether you were unmatched or matched but did not enroll.

These situations have different consequences. “Qualified but unmatched” does not mean the same thing as “matched but missed admission.”

2. Review Your Priority List

Check which college-program combinations you submitted and whether your family can finance them.

Your priorities should balance ambition with realistic choices. Do not select a college you would refuse to attend if allocated.

3. Follow Every Official Round

Track matching, rematching, vacant-seat, wrap-up, alternative-matching, and admission-deadline notices.

The MEC academic calendar guide can help you plan, but a new MEC notice controls if dates change.

4. Prepare Your Documents and Finances

Keep your scorecard, identification, academic records, category documents, and required originals ready.

Discuss the complete cost of a paying seat with your parents before selecting it. Consider tuition, accommodation, transportation, educational materials, and other recurring costs—not only the initial admission amount.

5. Set a Decision Point

Follow every round for which you are eligible, but decide what you will do if the cycle closes without a seat.

Mistakes That Can Cost You a Seat

  • Treating CEE qualification as confirmation of admission
  • Missing online priority setting or a later application window
  • Selecting only one highly competitive institution
  • Ranking a college you would refuse to join
  • Ignoring scholarship-versus-paying seat affordability
  • Missing the admission deadline after being matched
  • Trusting unofficial vacancy claims instead of MEC notices

Take screenshots or download receipts after every online submission. If the portal shows an error, record the time and follow the official support instructions promptly.

You Are Still in the Process Until MEC Closes It

Not receiving a seat in the first list does not erase your result. Stay attentive through rematching and wrap-up, but decide using your rank, finances, and willingness to attend the selected institution.

If you want help interpreting your result or reviewing realistic next steps, message our counselors on WhatsApp.

Share your scorecard, program, rank, applicable category, and priority list. We will help you identify what to monitor before the next official notice.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Passing the 50th Percentile Secure a CEE Seat?

No. It makes you eligible for the merit and matching process. Admission still depends on your relevant merit rank, group rules, submitted priorities, available seats, and completion of the admission requirements.

Will I Automatically Be Included in CEE Rematching?

Do not assume so. Eligibility can depend on the specific MEC notice, your earlier matching or admission status, the seat group, and the program. Read the official notice for that round.

Do I Need to Apply Again for Wrap-Up Matching?

MEC may require a separate online application. It did so for the MECEE-BL 2026 wrap-up stage. Follow the notice for your admission cycle rather than relying on a previous year’s procedure.

What Happens if I Am Matched but Miss the Admission Deadline?

Your allocated seat may become vacant and move into a later round. Whether you remain eligible for another stage depends on the applicable procedure and notice, so check with MEC immediately.
