About Karnataka College of Nursing
Karnataka College of Nursing opened in 2003 and is run by the Karnataka Education Trust. Its campus is at Thirumenahalli on Hegde Nagar Main Road, near Jakkur in north Bangalore, between Yelahanka and Hebbal. Published listings describe a campus of about two acres with a student–teacher ratio of around 11 to 1.
Nursing at Karnataka is split across two institutions. Karnataka College of Nursing teaches BSc, Post Basic BSc, MSc and PhD Nursing, with degrees awarded by Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences. Karnataka School of Nursing teaches the GNM diploma under the Karnataka State Diploma in Nursing Examination Board. The trust also runs Karnataka College of Pharmacy on the same road.
The trust says it has taught students from more than 25 countries, including SAARC nations, some on Indian government scholarships. That matters for you: a college used to international students is more likely to have its admission paperwork for foreign nationals in order.
It suits you if you want a smaller college in the northern part of Bangalore, close to the airport side of the city.
Is Karnataka College of Nursing recognized in Nepal?
Your qualification needs to be recognized in India and then in Nepal, and Nepal’s side has one step you must take before you leave home.
In India. RGUHS awards the BSc, Post Basic BSc, and MSc degrees, and the Karnataka State Diploma in Nursing Examination Board examines GNM. The college states that it is recognized by the Indian Nursing Council, the Karnataka State Nursing Council, and the Government of Karnataka. You or your parents can check its current status on the INC’s list of recognized institutions before you pay any fee.
In Nepal. You can’t practice as a nurse on a foreign qualification alone. You must register with the Nepal Nursing Council (NNC) and pass its licensing examination. The NNC asks anyone who studied outside Nepal on or after 01/10/2020 to submit an eligibility letter from Nepal’s Medical Education Commission (MEC) with their licensing exam application, along with an equivalence certificate and evidence of the college’s recognition. Arrange the MEC letter before you pay fees or travel.
In India, after graduating. Indian Nursing Council guidance says foreign nationals, including Nepali citizens, who study nursing in India are not registered with an Indian State Nursing Registration Council for employment. Plan on using your qualification in Nepal or abroad.
Beyond Nepal. An INC-recognised BSc Nursing is the usual starting point for the UK, Gulf and US routes. Each has its own registration exam and English test.
Why choose Karnataka College of Nursing — and who it suits
Reasons you can check yourself:
- Experience with international students. The trust says it has taught students from more than 25 countries, including SAARC nations.
- The full ladder, up to PhD. GNM, BSc, Post Basic BSc, MSc in five specialities and PhD Nursing are all available, so you can keep studying at the same college.
- Small classes. Published listings give a student–teacher ratio of around 11 to 1, with 60 BSc seats a year.
- Simulation labs with manikins and a computerised library with HELINET, RGUHS’s online journal service.
- Separate hostels for boys and girls.
It may not suit you if:
- You want a big campus. The campus is about two acres, so don’t expect large grounds.
- You need to know your training hospitals before you apply. The college doesn’t publish its clinical hospitals, so we confirm them with the college for you.
- You’re nervous about patients speaking other languages. Teaching is in English, but many patients speak Kannada, Tamil, Telugu or Hindi. You’ll need working phrases in your first clinical year.

Teaching is in English, and RGUHS sets the degree exams.
Also on campus: Karnataka College of Pharmacy. If you’re weighing nursing against pharmacy, the trust’s pharmacy college (established 2004) offers D.Pharm, B.Pharm, Pharm.D and M.Pharm. It is affiliated to RGUHS and approved by the Pharmacy Council of India. In Nepal, pharmacy graduates register with the Nepal Pharmacy Council.
Karnataka College of Nursing fees for Nepali students — the full cost
Karnataka College of Nursing doesn’t publish its fees, and the listings we checked contradict each other. One gives BSc Nursing at INR 65,000 a year, another at INR 1,37,500 for the first year, and the same site shows totals from INR 40,000 to INR 5.5 lakh. That spread is too wide to budget against. We get the college’s written fee schedule for you before you pay anything. It will cover:
- tuition for each year, and any fee set for foreign applicants
- hostel and mess
- one-time admission, deposit, uniform, books, and RGUHS exam and registration fees
- the full-programme total, converted to NPR at the fixed Nepal Rastra Bank rate of INR 1 = NPR 1.60
What is not included, even once fees are confirmed:
- Travel home, especially at Dashain and Tihar, when fares are highest
- Personal spending: phone, local transport, toiletries and clothes
- Medical insurance, unless the college includes it
- Nepal-side paperwork, such as the MEC letter, attestation and translations
For parents: build a full-programme budget before you leave. Nursing means classes, labs and hospital postings, so your son or daughter shouldn’t rely on part-time work to pay for tuition or living costs.
Scholarships: the trust mentions international students on Indian government scholarships (ICCR and others), but these are government schemes, not college fee concessions. The college doesn’t publish its own scholarship for Nepali students.
Refunds depend on the case and the stage of admission. Ask our counsellors before you pay anything.
Clinical training, internship and where this degree takes you
For a nursing student, the hospitals you train in matter more than the buildings. The college says its campus is close to several large corporate hospitals in north Bangalore, but it doesn’t publish which hospitals its students are posted to. We confirm your clinical hospitals and internship arrangements with the college before you commit.
On campus, you practise first in the simulation labs with manikins, before you go onto the wards.
Where the degree takes you. The college doesn’t publish verified placement data, so we don’t quote a placement rate. These are the routes:
- Nepal: register with the Nepal Nursing Council after passing its licensing exam.
- India: INC guidance says foreign nationals aren’t registered with Indian State Nursing Councils for employment.
- Abroad: the UK, Gulf and US routes start from an INC-recognised degree, plus that country’s own exam and English test.
Hostel, safety and campus facilities
Your parents will want to know where you sleep and who looks after you. The college runs separate hostels for boys and girls. Before you pay, we confirm whether they’re on campus, the room sharing, warden arrangements, gate timings and what the mess serves.
Campus facilities
- Simulation labs with manikins
- Computerised library with an e-library and HELINET access

Getting to Bangalore from Nepal — and life once you are there
Flying is the practical route. Bangalore is about 1,800 km from Kathmandu by air. Nepal Airlines flies non-stop to Kempegowda International Airport in about 3 hours 25 minutes, and Air India Express lists a non-stop service from 25/10/2026. Other routes connect through Delhi or Kolkata. Check schedules before you book. Jakkur is in north Bangalore, on the airport side of the city, so your road trip to campus is relatively short.
Documents to travel. Nepali citizens don’t need a visa to study in India. Travel on your passport. The Embassy of Nepal in New Delhi lists either the passport or the citizenship certificate as valid for air travel to India, but at least one airline accepts only a passport or voter ID from adults.
Daily life. Bangalore is mild all year. Kannada is the local language, and English and Hindi are widely used. Get an Indian SIM card in your first week.
